Will the real light saber please stand up
This is actually a Jacobs Ladder I built for a mad scientist Halloween theme party we threw back in 2005. But when I was done I just had to shoot this way cool phenomenon.
The electrodes are 2 feet tall and each arc takes about 1 second to travel the distance. This exposure was 1.1 seconds allowing me to capture each and every ladder jump the arc made. Way coo huh. Well I think so. It is kind of loud but I can watch this bad boy all night long. From a distance of course.

A Jacobs ladder is really just two parallel conductors called ladders are connected to a high voltage transformer (in this case 60,000 volts) and an arc jumps between the two electrodes and climbs up the ladder.
